Chapter 8. Life on Berk
After deciding to stay on Berk and setting up a small space for him in their house the next step is to at least introduce Orus and Sylt to the rest of Berk.
So the next few days the whole village spends getting things ready for a welcoming party at the Great Hall to welcome them to Berk and also to let them get a feel for who they all are.
In the meantime the family give them the gist of the basics of the island without revealing too much information. Also during this time the family does slip away the night before the welcoming party to Lover’s Cove to have a private alone time with Stoick and talk about all this.
Stoick doesn’t reveal the fact it was him and Kara that sent Orus there way but does express his own fatherly concerns for the orphan boy and that Kara assures she’ll watch over the boy.
They also go over some other things going on both with the growing Golden Age and things on the other side and how the dragons’ families are doing before having to depart for the night.
The welcoming party seems to go well and at least Orus and Sylt get a much better impression of Berk and its people this way then when they arrived and get a full apology from Snotlout and the Twins.
Though as Hiccup explains to Orus and Sylt even though they’ve welcome them to Berk they are not yet part of the family quite yet.
Not understanding what that means he says they’ll know when they’ve truly become a member of their family and truly belong to the Berk Tribe. For now they’ll spend their days with different people of the tribe each day to hopefully learn what they need to learn to live and the lessons of life.
And the first people they’ll be working with for their first few days are his mother’s brunch club friends as they do their jobs. From there it will slowly go around to each member of their family and well as the weeks bleed into months they’ll see how they turn out.
Just as the party ends there is one very important person Orus and Sylt still has to meet and he’s the most important person to all of them. They bring them in front of the statue of their father and through a couple of songs explain who Stoick the Vast was and still is.
Then the rest of the chapter again tells Orus and Sylt slowly learning from each group and their dragons while also both of them falling deeper in love with Una and Skullcrusher respectively.
So that’s is how the first couple of weeks of Orus’s new life plays out.
